Acute Care Registered Nurse - POOL

Job Responsibilities:
1. All Acute Care Registered Nurses working at SalusCare are qualified and complete the same training.  Nurses assigned to the Detoxification Unit have the ability and training to float to the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) as needed.  Nurses assigned to the CSU have the ability and training to float to the Detox Unit as needed.  
2. Nurses assigned to the CSU are scheduled to work any nurse position within the CSU as needed.  This includes:  Adult Unit as Charge Nurse or Medication Nurse, Children’s Unit, and, Assessment Nurse.  
3. Consistently provide treatment in accordance with physician orders and person-centered treatment plans. This includes, but is not limited to completing the nursing assessment and/or the administration of medication as prescribed by the Provider’s orders and according to competency and consent regulations. Report any side effects or complaints to the charge nurse and/or physician. 

4. Accurately documents nursing care and behavioral observations in the patient’s clinical record throughout each shift. 

5. Regularly provides nursing care including nursing assessments and medication administration. Complete admission and discharge form according to unit policies and procedures. Provides Nursing Assessment summary and nursing diagnosis for all patients.

6. Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team attending patient’s staffing and treatment team meetings.  Develops the initial treatment plan and provides input in the ongoing development and implementation of the treatment plan. As a team member, ensure health and safety of all patients by assessing mental and physical condition of patients on each shift and communicate findings to shift charge nurse and/or physician

7. Provides direct oversight to the Licensed Nurses and Behavioral Health Technicians during non-business hours and communicates performance issues to the Crisis Services or Detox Leadership Team. 

8. Initiates, based off Provider orders, restraints or seclusion and provides documentation according to unit policies and procedures.  This shall also include participating in the debriefing process after a patient has been restrained and/or placed in seclusion.

9. Responsible for implementation and coordination of functions related to the delivery of nursing/medical treatments. 

a. Crisis Stabilization Unit functions include:  Review of any and all hospital documentation to ensure that any patient presenting to the CSU that has been transferred from a hospital does not meet any exclusionary criteria as well as for those patient returning from the hospital after being sent out to be medically cleared to ensure that any prescriptions are ordered and any medical barriers have been solved for a safe admission to the CSU. 
b. Detox Unit functions include:  Recognizing the signs/symptoms of withdrawal.  Administration of injections, with Physician’s orders.  Utilizing appropriate protocols for detoxing

10. Responsible for communication with the LPN about the medication administration, medication compliance of patients and policy compliance of staff.  This information should be used during the multi-disciplinary treatment team to ensure that patients are receiving continuity of care.  Reports audit results and medication education needs to the Nurse Manager and/or designee.

11. Order formulary medications from pharmacy as needed on a daily basis.

12. Consistently follows all policies and procedures related to medication storage, dispensing, documentation and control. 

a. Comply with Policy 4100-111 – Medication Errors
b. Comply with Policy 4100-300 – Administration and Documentation of Medication
c. Comply with Policy 4100-302 – Storage, Dispensing, Disposition of Medications

13. Unfailing interact with patients on an individual and group basis using a person-centered approach, as well as, regularly interacts with patient’s support system, e.g. family, resource coordinators, other agencies, etc. to coordinate patient’s treatment.

14. Immediately reports to Program Director, Nurse Manager, or designee any staffing issues which may result in negative impact of patient care or safety.

15. As requested, assist Nurse Manager in orientation of new nursing personnel to their shift.

16. Regularly attends scheduled nursing meetings to receive appropriate supervision and receive program/facility specific information.

17. Maintain compliance with staff development training, licensure requirements, and nursing peer reviews.

18. Performs related duties as assigned by department supervisor.

19. Routinely demonstrates a sound understanding of and commitment to complying with CARF, AHCA, DCF, and other regulatory requirements.

20. Consistently displays cultural competence and sensitivity to ensure services provided (Assessments/evaluations, treatment planning, discharge planning) incorporate patient specific cultural values. 

21. Will attain competence within the organizations electronic health record and uses it effectively within required time frames.

22. Completes Incident Reports within the appropriate time frames utilizing Policy 1500-030 – Incident Reporting.

Charge Nurse Additional Responsibilities:
1. Consistently displays appropriate team leadership skills, communication skills, and an ability to prioritize and adapt while under pressure.
2. Effectively provides direction on processes of admission, service delivery, discharge, and general flow of patients while monitoring unit standards.   
3. Reliably provides guidance on administering care to patients and answering questions regarding policies and procedures. 
4. Follows the Staffing Policies for the CSU and Detox Units
1. CSU Charge RN:  Utilizes Policy 3130-150- CSU Staffing Pattern
2. Detox Charge RN:  Utilizes Policy 3110-003- Detox Staffing Pattern

Job Qualifications:
Requires a valid Florida RN Licensure and Nursing Degree. Basic computer skills and good communication skills required.  Previous Patient Care experience in Substance Abuse or Behavioral Health Preferred.  Requires the ability to attain competency with the company electronic medical records and use it effectively within the required time frames.
