Acute Care Registered Nurse

Job Responsibilities:

1.  Provides nursing care including nursing assessments and medication administration. Complete admission and discharge form according to unit policies and procedures. Document nursing care and behavioral observations in the client’s clinical record each shift. Provides Nursing Assessment summary and nursing diagnosis for all clients.

2. Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team attending client’s staffing and treatment
team meetings.  As a team member, ensure health and safety of all clients by assessing mental and physical condition of clients on each shift and communicate findings to shift charge nurse. 
 Develops the initial treatment plan and provides input in the ongoing development and implementation of the treatment plan.

3. Provides treatment in accordance with doctor’s orders and person-centered treatment plans.

4.  Provides direct supervision for Licensed Nurses and Behavioral Care Technicians; and communicates performance issues to Crisis Management Team for accommodation/disciplinary action. Initiates restraints or seclusion and provides documentation according to unit policies and procedures.

5. Responsible for implementation and coordination of functions related to the delivery of CSU nursing/medical treatments. These functions include delivery and monitoring of diagnostic testing (EKGs, laboratory services and clinic visits)

6. Responsible for monitoring of CSU medication administration and policy compliance. Reports audit results and medication education needs to Program Director.

7.  Administers medication as prescribed by the doctor’s orders and according to competency and consent regulations. Report any side effects or complaints to the charge nurse and/or physician.

8. Orders medications from pharmacy as needed on a daily basis. Maintains sample medications according to policy and procedure. Counts controlled substances and sample drugs each shift. Reports any discrepancies to the Program Director or Pharmacist as appropriate. Assists with medication room/pharmacy procedure change and performance improvement initiatives.

9.  Interacts with clients on an individual and group basis.

10.  Interacts with client’s support system, e.g. family, resource coordinators, other agencies, etc. to assist in    coordination of client’s treatment.

11. Attends regularly scheduled Licensed Nursing and staff meetings to receive appropriate supervision and program/facility specific information.

12. Maintains compliance with staff development training and nursing peer reviews.

13. Performs related duties as assigned by department supervisor.

14. Routinely demonstrates a sound understanding of and commitment to complying with CARF standards for CSU/ARF department.

15. Consistently displays cultural competence and sensitivity to ensure services provided (Assessments/evaluations, treatment planning, discharge planning) incorporate client specific cultural values.

16. Will attain competence with Anasazi software and use it effectively within required time frames.

17.  CHARGE NURSE ADDENDUM: Acute Care Registered Nurses with the “grandfather” title of Charge Nurse follow the Acute Care Registered Nurse job description.

Charge Nurse Additional Responsibilities:
1. Consistently displays appropriate team leadership skills, communication skills, and an ability to prioritize and adapt while under pressure.
2. Effectively provides direction on processes of admission, service delivery, discharge, and general flow of patients while monitoring unit standards.   
3. Reliably provides guidance on administering care to patients and answering questions regarding policies and procedures.


Job Qualifications:
Requires a valid Florida RN license and nursing degree. Basic computer skills and good communication skills required. Previous detoxification experience and knowledge of substance abuse treatment modalities preferred. Requires the ability to attain competency with the company electronic medical records and use it effectively within the required time frames.
