Job Responsibilities:


1. Responsible for providing quality clinical care on the crisis stabilization unit.  Functions include, but are not limited to for both adults and children/adolescents:
a. Independently obtaining psychiatric history.  This may include obtaining clinical information for a physician to determine involuntary commitment (Baker Act) care.
b. Providing medication monitoring through follow-up visits
c. Prescribes medications as appropriate, and informs patients of risks, side effects, benefits, and alternatives
d. Evaluates for medication side effects, toxicity, and effectiveness
e. Provides education to patients regarding medical treatment
f. Participates in regular supervision with protocol physician
g. Participates in treatment planning
h. Communicates with families when appropriate
i. Completes discharge paperwork under physician direction / assignment
j. Completes histories and physicals when directed by leadership

a. Maintains compliance with staff development training, including current knowledge and competence in the behavioral health field.
b. Improves / maintains current knowledge and competency of best practices, including co-occurring treatment concerns
c. Demonstration of cultural sensitivity, including incorporation of cultural factors throughout all aspects of care (assessment to service planning to service delivery through discharge)
d. Effective understanding and use of electronic health record software, including input of accurate and complete electronic documentation, and uses it within required timeframes.
e. Practices safety, environmental, and infection control standards
f. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.

a. Demonstrates a commitment to service excellence and quality care
b. Enforces quality management directives for compliance in clinical and outcomes documentation, including for AHCA, DCF, Central Florida, and CARF
c. Enforces systems for the timely submission of quality reports / documentation, including those for the State, other monitoring groups, or internal quality feedback (e.g. peer evaluations)

4.  Maintains appropriate protocols; participates in regular supervision with protocol physician(s). Notifies attending or on-call physician, as appropriate, for abnormal, unusual or unexpected events/problems requiring direct physician consultation. Treatment recommendations and referrals for care are made as appropriate.

5. Enhances internal communication and networking throughout SalusCare.  Communicates and interacts effectively with other staff within the company. 

6. Facilitates and promotes a team which reflects the vision and mission of the company. Interacts with co-workers and clients in a professional and ethical manner. 

7. Provides coverage on the crisis stabilization unit at least every other weekend.

8. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to work with a varied client population.

9. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications:
Requires either an MS degree in Nursing with 2 years’ experience as a Psychiatric APRN OR an MS degree in Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Must possess a clear/active FL license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.  ANCC or AANP certificate in Psychiatry/Mental Health Specialty required. Active DEA certificate required
