Job Responsibilities:
This is a 7 days on/ 7 days off (10 hour shift) position.

1. Provides quality psychiatric services which reflect approved clinical standards of SalusCare in the assessment and treatment of adult patients, and child/adolescents if needed.  This includes:
a. assessment of the individual’s mental health status, 
b. diagnostic impressions supported by the presenting symptoms, 
c. clinical summary and treatment recommendations, 
d. clinical interpretation of assessment information and treatment recommendations supported by assessment information. 
e. Will document appropriate diagnoses that includes substance use and/or co-occurring disorders.
Documentation will reflect implementation of these standards.

2. Maintains accurate, complete and concise documentation (assessments, treatment plans and reviews, progress notes, discharge summaries, etc.) that are legible and filed within established time guidelines.  Consistently maintains compliance with regulatory standards for program. 

3. Capably prescribes medication in accordance with SalusCare formulary and effectively informs patient and/or family and support system of potential side effects.

4. Adeptly participates in treatment planning and case staffings as appropriate.  Successfully serves as a team leader at daily treatment team meetings.

5. Effectively contributes to family meetings as appropriate and assures feedback of significant treatment information to family members and stakeholders.

6. If weekly hours at SalusCare amount to over 20 or more, Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) weekend-round coverage, participation in call coverage at least one weekend every other month may be requested. 

7. Proficiently interfaces with other treatment professionals as appropriate. Communicates and interacts with external stakeholders in a professional, ethical manner.

8. Satisfactorily participates in monthly Peer Review process.

9. Reliably remains current on programmatic issues, medical standards and performance improvement strategies within the department.  Meaningfully participates in weekly staff meetings and/or reviews meeting minutes and handouts to remain current with medical and pharmacy practice standards.

10. Occasionally provides quality periodic in-service training to SalusCare staff as requested and approved by Senior Psychiatrist or designee.

11. Effectually provides psychiatric review of the clinical record and certification of appropriate treatment as required.  May be contacted by center utilization management staff for pre-certification and concurrent reviews requiring psychiatrist peer intervention.  Service review may also include follow-up on any third party or managed care denials based on medical necessity.

12. Effectively serves as medical consultant to SalusCare staff as requested and appropriate. 

13. Enhances internal communication and networking throughout SalusCare.  Communicates and interacts effectively with external stakeholders.  Continuously promotes a team atmosphere which reflects the vision and mission of the company. 

14. Regularly participates in the development of medical standards and pharmacy and therapeutics review on a monthly basis.

15. Unfailingly maintains compliance with all mandatory training and minimal hours of in-service training required by licensing agencies and SalusCare

16. Consistently displays cultural competence and sensitivity and ensures services provided by assigned staff (ex. Assessments/evaluations, treatment planning, discharge planning) incorporate patient-specific cultural values.

17. Routinely demonstrates a sound understanding of and commitment to complying with CARF standards for the assigned services departments.

18. Promptly attains competence with the electronic medical record (software) used at SalusCare and uses it effectively within required timeframes.

19. Successfully performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Qualifications:
Must have graduated from an accredited Medical school with an MD or DO; Board Certified in Psychiatry by the American Bd. of Psychiatry & Neurology preferred (Bd. Eligible required). Must possess a demonstrated interest in treating the acute care and willingness to see child/adolescent population if necessary. Previous addictions or community mental health exp. preferred. Must be able to attain competency with the company electronic health record and use it effectively within required timeframes.
