Job Responsibilities:
This position serves as the initial contact for individuals entering the Emergency Services department. The professional and compassionate treatment of all individuals served is of the utmost importance. Attention to safety is vital at all times. Intake Specialists operate as part of team and communicate in a clear, calm and positive manner with all stakeholders.
A. Duties and Responsibilities in Relation to Individuals Present in the Emergency Services Dept.
1. Greets and effectively provides intake triage of individuals presenting at the Emergency Services department.
2. Meets with individuals to courteously take possession of all personal items upon entry into Emergency Services (ES) department; meticulously makes a written inventory of the individual’s secured items in accordance with Agency policy, and safely stores the personal items in a manner consistent with Agency procedure.
3. Accurately obtains and records vital signs of persons entering ES department. Demonstrates proficiency in obtaining vital signs.
4. Successfully acquires consent for services, documents demographic information, prepares financial forms, and thoroughly completes recording forms appropriate to the Emergency Services department. Demonstrates competence in full and accurate completion of required documentation.
5. Correctly records observation of individuals during their stay in the Emergency Services department through utilization of Agency procedures and recording forms.
6. Routinely monitors individuals’ behavior, safety and comfort during periods of seclusion as stipulated in company procedures and recording forms.
7. Consistently maintains open and timely communication with all ES staff regarding the status, behavior, and needs of individuals present in the ES department.
8. Unfailingly ensures the safety of all individuals in the ES department through the effective use of TEAM and MAB techniques and by careful adherence to Agency policies and procedures.
9. Reliably meets with individuals to return all personal items at the time the individual leaves the department and secures written confirmation from the individual that he/she/they has received all items indicated on the written inventory prepared at the time the individual’s items were secured at the ES department. If the individual is admitted to an Agency program, guarantees the individual’s personal items are given to the program and written verification of the receipt of the items are secured from the admitting program.
10. Routinely demonstrates a sound understanding of and commitment to complying with CARF standards for the ES department.
11. Persistently demonstrates an understanding and respect for cultural competence and sensitivity when interacting with consumers of SalusCare services.
12. Promptly attains competence with company electronic health record and uses it effectively within required time frames.
B. Duties and Responsibilities in Relation to Individuals Calling the Emergency Services Telephones.
1. Swiftly responds to information and referral telephone line and prepares proper documentation of answered calls.
2. Consistently responds to all incoming phone lines for the Emergency Services department and addresses callers with dignity and respect at all times.
3. Promptly attains and maintains knowledge of area resources and effectively communicates information about resources to individuals requesting information from the ES department.
C. Duties and Responsibilities in Relation to the Agency’s Electronic Record.
1. Accurately completes verification of fund source information for all persons seeking services through the Emergency Services department.
2. Reliably assists with pre-certification of insurance coverage, as needed.
3. Inputs intake and fund source information into the electronic record in a timely and accurate manner.
4. Regularly maintains a correct written and electronic daily log of persons accessing services through the Emergency Services department.
5. Efficaciously assists with scheduling appointments, as needed, with Agency personnel in response to an ES staff person’s referral for such appointment.
D. Duties and Responsibilities in Relation to General Operations of the Emergency Services Dept.
1. Aids with accurate preparation of charts and other forms of documentation utilized in the ES department on a routine basis.
2. Contributes with maintaining a clean and healthy environment by wiping down furniture in the evaluation rooms after the room is vacated by an individual seeking services and is careful to retrieve any found items left on the floor of an evaluation room.
3. Consistently interacts in a respectful and dignified manner with all individuals seeking services through the ES department, all staff and all other stakeholders.
4. Demonstrates willingness to assist with covering shifts to ensure 24/7 staffing needs are met.
5. Continuously maintains compliance with mandatory staff development training requirements, per company procedures.
6. Routinely demonstrates knowledge of , and compliance with, regulatory and licensing Agencies and pertinent
Florida statutes (e.g. Baker Act, Marchman Act, CARF, AHCA, SAMH).
7. Successfully completes other related and relevant duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Qualifications:
Requires a High School diploma/equivalent. Prefer One (1) year direct-care experience in a behavioral health, human services, corrections, mental health or related field OR The successful completion of the equivalent of 30 semester/credit hours towards an undergraduate degree in health, behavioral health, human services or a related field, but this is not required.
Requires knowledge of basic computer software programs. Must be able to attain competency with company electronic health record and use it effectively within required timeframes.
